Leveling route 1–30: Alliance & Horde

Updated Oct 17, 2026 · Beta build of Oct 1 · Any class

What changed in the level 30 build

  • The level cap went up to 30.[1][4]
  • New dungeon: Excavation Site: Wetlands (26–31). Razorfen Downs (25+) and Uldaman (30+) also opened.[1]
  • Dungeon quests now give 50% less bonus XP on top of normal quest XP, because testers said leveling was too fast.[1]
  • Creatures and objects respawn faster in Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, Wetlands, Duskwood and Thousand Needles.[1]

So in this range, questing is the main way to level. Treat dungeons as a bonus.

Tips

  • Written for normal realms. Dying costs you time, not your character, so join dungeon groups when one forms.
  • Dungeon quest XP was cut, so do each dungeon's quests once, then go back to questing.[1]
  • Faster respawns in the 20–30 zones mean less waiting on contested mobs.[1]
  • Plan your talents in the talent planner. Not sure what to play? Take the class quiz.
